Our Christmas Trip

Our journey begins with my cousin's husband who works for Delta. He was able to get us Buddy Passes so that we may fly to Atlanta for Christmas at a very inexpensive trip. We sent Sara, our dog, to the Doggy Hotel, reserved Super Shuttle to pick us up at 5am on Saturday 12/22, and we were off. Now, the one thing that is a given is we are flying standby both departing Tampa to Atlanta and coming back home. We arrive at the Tampa airport very excite and a little hesitant *this is Little One's first flight*.

We are dropped at the baggage check-in and the first person to ask if he can help with our bags is a gentleman dressed in normal airport attire… I figure this guy is an employee of Delta… and there is no one in line to check their bags… so I agree he can check our bags… bad move. Turns out his is a Sky Cap, and is expecting a tip…… WE HAVE NO CASH ON US. I politely say “Thank you and Merry Christmas” and turn to leave, my DH comes up to me and tells me that guy is totally ticked off and slamming our bags around and shaking his head in disgust. I ask why and DH tells me the deal, he was expecting a tip. I am totally embarrassed at my Faux Pas ( I have not flown in more than 12 years and didn’t really know what a Sky Cap looked like or even did. So, we are off to a rocky start.. we have to go into the airport to find an ATM and FAST! I don’t know what to expect to get through security. Finally we locate an ATM grab $20 and off to Starbucks to break the $20 ;-) for a tip…. Then back to the entrance we came in (where in the heck did we come in????) to find the Sky Cap and tip the man!!!! Mission Complete, whew.

Next we are onto security, I have emptied all bad things that we can not take on the plane, liquids, lighters…etc… stand in line, take off shoes(btw, I’m wearing Merry Christmas socks to spread some cheer in the line), coats, take laptop out, put all in plastic cartons and walk through metal detectors, gather belongings, through every thing back together and off to the gate…

We arrive and there are A LOT of seats left and only 15 standbys including us J … we wait until everyone w/ paid tickets board and we get called to board.. YAY!!! I walk on the plane first and low and behold it is a HUGE plane and there are 3 seats in the middle.. YAY again!! We get to sit together!!! WOW, this has been sooo easy, the flight was fantastic, we arrived about 10 minutes earlier than expected, Nana found a parking spot and was able to meet us at Baggage Claim instead of having to circle the airport over and over again waiting for us. YAY once more!!!

Drove to my Parent’s House and there waiting for us was a very Merry Christmas, Mom had decorated the house very Christmassy, had stockings for us to decorate and we even were able to do a little shopping Saturday night… Had a great meal that included Honey Baked Ham, YUMMY!!! We were tuckered out and went to bed around 11pm… Sunday Morning, I woke up w/ a horrible STUPID migraine and was out for the count until 2pm that afternoon. Didn’t do much that afternoon, just hung out with the family.

Monday, Christmas Eve – Mom had asked for us girls.. Mom, me, my Lil’ Sis, and Niece to go to get manicures,… Mom paid (THANK YOU!!) We all got our nails painted Christmas Red and had a great time! After that we headed to Kroger to grab a few items. I also picked up 2 bottles of wine and a Christmas bouquet for my Sis-In-Law, my DH, Little One and I were headed to their house for Christmas Eve Dinner and gifts… We arrived there around 5ish. We had not seen Sis-In-Law’s Family in over a year and my, my how the girls have grown, tell me how does time fly so fast???

Sis-In-Law really had a wonderful meal for us, Grilled Salmon, Beer Can Chicken, Asparagus and Garlic Roasted Potatoes. YUMMY!!! Everything was wonderful… after dinner the kids opened gifts and had a BLAST!!! We left to go back to my Parent’s house about 11pm, got there, put out Santa’s cookies and milk and put Little One to bed, with visions of Sugar Plums dancing in his head.

Christmas Morning – Little One woke up at 7am, came in to wake us and we opened gifts…way too many to list J … Had a Little One ordered breakfast.. Pigs in a Blanket, Hot Chocolate and waited for my Lil’ Sis and her family to come over to open more gifts. Next we were off to my Aunt and Uncle’s Christmas get together she has every year… but this one was different, instead at their house in Hampton, Georgia, they were house sitting for couple that were on a cruise The couple’s house is actually a beautiful, nice Log Cabin in the North Georgia Mountains in Ellijay. One word… Breathtaking!! AND THE FOOD OH MY!! We had Flank Steak, Bacon wrapped Pork, Broccoli w/ cheese sauce, Potatoes Au Gratin, Sweet Potatoes both regular and in Orange Rinds…..desserts were wonderful, (understatement!!) We had Coconut Cake, Chocolate Cake, and an awesome Pecan Pie Cheesecake. But the best of the best was the FELLOWSHIP that we had together. There is something about being with my family and enjoying them, there smiles and warm, tenderness they offer. I love them so.

Wednesday 12/26 – went to my Lil’ Sis’s house to see the awesome job she has done decorating, spend some quality girl time (although not enough time) and to let the kids hang out together. She makes a mean Peach Bellini!! Thank you Nana!! Then onto one of our favorite restaurants, Provino’s for some fine Italian food!! YUMMY! We shared wonderful food and fellowship and over to Wal-Mart to pick up a gift for one of my Nephew’s 5th Birthday. J Next, back to my Parents.. sleep time!

Thursday 12/27 – time to head back to Tampa.. L My Lil’ Sis, picks us up at my Parents house at 5am, to get to the ATL airport by 6 for our standby flight at 8…Well, the adventure began.. stood in LONG lines for security checks… got to the gate… we were already 23rd on the standby list… bumped. (thought this would happen). We headed to a different gate in a different concourse… waited only to see that we were 30th on the stand by list … bumped. Headed back to another gate different concourse (A LOT of walking, grabbing Starbucks, muffins for breakfast). Arrive at this assigned gate.. still in the 30’s on the standby list… bumped. By now it is around noon, headed over to Delta desk, found out all flights to FL were either overbooked or had massive standby lists, not looking good for us to get home today. We decided to rent a car and drive to Tampa… got the car at 2 and here we are cruising down 75 in a tiny compact Chevy.. Oh the life and times of flying during Christmas.

This was a wonderful, fantastic, whirlwind trip and I would not have traded one moment for anything in the world!! I was able to spend time with ALL of my family, hug them, love them and look into their eyes and see the joy Christmas, together celebrating the Birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the true Reason for this Season.

A St. Pete Walkabout

This afternoon my friend Amy and I decided to go to St. Pete and take pictures. We had a wonderful time and saw some very interesting architecture. Enjoy the following pictures, I'll post more when I get my 'old timers' film developed...

9/16/07

Are you a Martha or a Maxine??

*Martha's Way*
Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.

*Maxine's Way *
Just suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone, for Pete's sake! You are probably lying on the couch with your feet up eating it, anyway!

*Martha's Way*
To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.

*Maxine's Way*
Buy Hungry Jack mashed potato mix , keep it in the pantry for up to a year.

*Martha's Way*
When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake.

*Maxine's Way*
Go to the bakery! They'll even decorate it for you. ?

*Martha's Way*
If you accidentally oversalt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant "fix-me-up."

*Maxine's Way*
If you oversalt a dish while you are cooking, that's too bad. Please recite with me the real woman's motto: "I made it and you will eat it and I don't care how bad it tastes!"

*Martha's Way*
Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.

*Maxine's Way*
Celery? Never heard of it!

*Martha's Way*
Brush some beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish.

*Maxine's Way*
The Mrs. Smith frozen pie directions do not include brushing egg whites over the crust so I don't.

*Martha's Way*
Cure for headaches: take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

*Maxine's Way*
Take a lime, mix it with tequila, chill and drink!

*Martha's Way*
If you have a problem opening jars, try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.

*Maxine's Way*
Go ask that very cute neighbor if he can open it for you.

*Martha's Way*
Don't throw out all that leftover wine. Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.

*Maxine
Leftover wine???????????
HELLO !!!!!!!

For those of you who might not know who Maxine is.. click on the Title and you will be whisked away to her history.

Another Fire

During the year that I have worked here, I beleive this is our 4th evacuation.

We will never forget...

My Baby is 10

The first 10 years went by in a heartbeat.

10 Years ago today I was holding my newborn baby boy, in the hospital room trying to keep the baby cap on his little conehead that my Father-In-Law assured me would go away (of course it did! silly me)

Over the course of the 1st year, I was amazed by this small wonder. Feeding, changing, bathing, rocking, all of these I loved every minute of, but my dearest memories are of the middle of the night feedings, just me and my baby boy... bonding. That wonderful baby smell and the long gazes into each others eyes, communitcating silently to each other.

Over the next years, there were all the firsts... steps, words, running, falling, skinned knees, belbows (this was the pronounciation for elbow from a 2 yr old), even a black eye from standing on a big ball and then crashing down onto the coffee table. And with each first there was the usual breath holding from Bobby and I, watching, listening.

I have tried not to be too sentimental today, but I just can't help it! My one and only child turned 10 today and I just know the next 10 will go by in a heartbeat as well. Love you Nicknick, you in my heart forever!

Birthday Pics... Enjoy!

Ode to Sweet Tea

Sweet tea is a definate Southern Thang and believe it or not living in South Central Florida.. it's hard thang to come by.

Over the close to 4 years we have lived here, at every restaurant we have ate at, when the waitress asks "What would you like to drink?" I always answer, with anticipation... "Sweet Tea" ... her answer (with the exception of Sonny's BBQ and Waffle House) "We don't have sweet tea, we have a Rasberry Tea that is sweet"--- and my hopes are dashed.

*sigh* I sure do miss the South..

** There is even a song about it **

Sweet Tea
By: Cravin' Melon

If you find me sleepin' in the shade dear
Will you promise to bring me all your sweetness
All my plans are hangin' in the palms dear
All my thoughts are lost in Pawley's interest

Rock me gently the waves are softly rollin'
Salty breezes blowin' through the screen dear
Pour me some of your old fashioned magic
I can hear you whispering in my ear

Don't try to offer me anything
What it comes right down to baby
Don't tempt me; I'm where I wanna be
Cause on the eighth day, God made sweet tea
Certain things in life I like to savor
Watchin' clouds and waitin' on the rain
If you ever question my behavior
Just a taste will make you feel the same now

We've known each other goin' on thirty years
Seen a lot of joy; we've seen a lot of tears
Still I wouldn't change a single thing That I did Cause we're here, yea....

...and the A/C gods smiled =)

YAY!! We found an A/C company that will finance our small fortune.

Their cost $4000 but we really don't have a choice in the matter.

The name of the Company is Tiger's One Hour A/C, the owner of the company came out on Monday, gave an estimate and then told DH to come by his house later and pick up a window unit so we could have at least one room cooled until they could get us installed on Thursday! Can you believe it?? The owners name is Wayne and I know he and his company is heaven sent!!

7/29/07

...and the A/C gods laughed...

Well.. from the day we moved into our home we always knew this day would come.. Our A/C finally kicked the bucket this past Friday night. Yes.. ladies and gentlemen in the midst of summer we are without air conditioning.

Friday night was ok only 88 degrees, Saturday was a horse of a different color, 91 (with all the windows open). Sunday, still all the windows open, we spent the whole day out by/in the pool but the house still is 91 and here it is at 7pm.

The grand total for a new A/C .... $3300, tomorrow we start out search for the money to pay for it.

C'est la vie

4th of July

Hope y'all had a wonderful 4th of July!! We had the best view in all of Pinellas County for the awesome July 4th Fireworks in Downtown Clearwater. We were able to go onto the roof of the building I work at. We were joined by several other Sunbelters and their families, we had a "blast" ;-) Enjoy the pictures!

Our Wendy.. (sigh, heavy heart)

Our 'Awesome!' Wendy decided it was time for her to take a dream and turn it into reality... so June 15th was her last day at work. She is moving to New York to start her own business!

So, everyone who loves and knows Wendy chipped in to get her a Kohl's Gift Card... we ended up with a total of $170.25.. yeah, I know.. .25??? What can I say.. we're quirky like that.

Well, last weekend we all (and I mean ALL, close to 30 of us) went out to say goodbye to our Wendy. All of us headed over to Crazy Buffet to indulge in wonderful Sushi, stiff drinks and great fellowship.

Afterwards some headed over to Planet 9 Ball, a local pool hall to shoot a few rounds... more wacky drinking done there as well ;-)

Today Carisa, Jamie and I (minus Amy.. WE MISSED YOU!!) met Wendy at Ruby Tuesday's for lunch and then went to Kohl's to supervise the purchases that would be made. This was the one rule - the entire Gift Card was to be spent only on things for our Wendy!!

The afternoon was a riot, we laughed so hard (like that's new) and tried on funny hats and goofy shoes and of course CLOTHES!! Wendy ended up spending all but somewhere around $46.00, this will be spent on a Winter Coat... btw Wendy...we will need verification of this. :)

If you would like to check out our fun times, you may click on my Flickr Tag to the left and check out the pics!!!

WE LOVE YOU WENDY!!! and WE ALREADY MISS YOU!!!

***Props to Carisa for being a trooper and to Jamie for trying on that wonderful sundress (should have got a pic of that one ;-)

Our Not so Furry Friends.. Unless you count Frogs Hair

Here is a really cute picture of our Cuban Tree Frogs while they were sleeping up inside our patio umbrella. These are some of the ones that have been living with us since we moved in 2 years ago. Yes they are cute.. but boy do they ever leave a mess!

As we grow up, we learn...

The one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will.

You'll have your heart broken more than once and it's harder every time.

You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken.

You'll fight with your best friend.

You'll blame a new love for things an old one did.

You'll cry because time is passing too fast.

You'll eventually lose someone you love.

So...
Take too many pictures.
Laugh too much.
Open your heart and love like you've never been hurt.

Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will pass you by.

Excerpts from a Cat's Diary

Day 983 of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a 'good little hunter' I am. Bastards! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for th e duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of 'allergies.' I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs. I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now...
